4 types of Student Brows

Microblading

  • Technique: Uses a handheld tool with tiny needles to create hair-like strokes on the skin, mimicking natural brow hairs.
  • Appearance: Very natural, with strokes that blend seamlessly with existing eyebrow hairs.
  • Durability: Semi-permanent, typically lasting 1 to 3 years, though touch-ups are needed as the strokes fade.
  • Best for: Those looking for a natural enhancement of sparse or thin brows.  Not recommended for clients with oily or more mature skin.
  • Healing: Can be more involved due to the fine, precise cuts made in the skin, especially more mature skin.
  • Popularity: Microblading is popular because of its natural look, but clients tend to prefer the combination brows since the shading makes it last longer and fuller.

Combination Brows (Also know as Hybrid Brows)

  • Technique: Combines Microblading (for the front and body of the brow) with a shading technique (similar to Powder Brows) for the tail or the entire brow to add depth and fullness.
  • Appearance: Offers both the natural look of hair strokes and the fuller, shaded look of powder brows, providing a versatile, multi-dimensional effect.
  • Durability: Similar to microblading in terms of longevity, with the shading lasting slightly longer. Not recommended for clients with oily or older skin.
  • Best for: Individuals wanting the best of both worlds - natural hair-like strokes and a soft, filled-in appearance.  Not recommended for clients with oily or more mature skin.
  • Healing: Combines the healing aspects of both microblading and shading techniques.
  • Popularity: A more popular hair stroke technique than microblading because the addition of shading makes it last longer than just hair strokes by itself.

Ombre Brows - Our most popular technique.

  • Technique: Uses a tattoo machine with a needle to deposit pigment in a stippling or shading method, creating a gradient effect where the color is lighter at the front of the brow and darker towards the tail.
  • Appearance: Provides a soft, makeup-like finish that looks like filled-in brows with a pencil or shadow. Less about mimicking individual hairs and more about overall color and shape.
  • Durability: Can last longer than Microblading, often up to 2-5 years, with the color fading softer and more uniformly.
  • Best for: Those who prefer a makeup look or have oily skin, as this method holds up better over time.  Recommended for darker skin tones since hair strokes are difficult to see on darker skin.  Also recommended for more mature skin since the cutting action of Microblading can be more difficult to heal for older skin.
  • Healing: Generally easier and less painful during the healing process compared to microblading.
  • Popularity:  A more popular shading technique than Power Brows because the gradient can make it look more natural.

Powder Brows

  • Technique: Similar to ombre brows but can vary in the extent of the gradient. It might involve a more uniform color application or less of a fade from light to dark.
  • Appearance: A solid, filled-in look, similar to the effect of brow powder or pencil. Can be tailored to be very soft or more defined.
  • Durability: Similar to ombre brows in terms of longevity.
  • Best for: Suitable for all skin types, particularly those with oily skin or those who want a consistent, filled-in look daily. Recommended for darker skin tones since hair strokes are difficult to see on darker skin.  Also recommended for more mature skin since the cutting action of Microblading can be more difficult to heal.
  • Healing: Like ombre brows, the healing process is generally straightforward with less scabbing compared to microblading.
  • Popularity:  A less popular shading technique than Ombre Brows because of the solid fill-in look, but tends to last the longest of all the techniques.

Combo Brows is one of our more popular brows.  It typically uses hair strokes at the head and shading toward the tail of the brow.

Ombre Brows use shading with a gradient that goes from light at the head to dark at the tail.  Although a makeup look, this gives a more natural look than Powder Brows.  Both Ombre and Powder are shading only techniques.

Powder Brows have a consistent saturation level across the brow.  It's a makeup look that simulates using brow powder.  Powder and Ombre are both recommended for mature skin since the cutting  of microblading can more difficult to heal for older skin.

Powder Brows is a makeup look that uses shading to shape the brows.  Semi-permanent makeup always looks very dark right after the procedure, but these brows will lighten as they heal and make the a less bold look.

Expect to get a 6 week touchup then a refresh touchup every 1-3 years.

We use numbing cream so the discomfort is minimized.

Yes. They are apprenticed by our professional staff.  The amount of supervision a student has depends on their skill and experience level.  As they gain in skill level, we try to give them more independence.

We have done over 25,000 brows and have developed a system to minimize student errors, but you are still more likely to need a 6-week touchup with our students to fine tune your brows; however, due to the healing nature of semi-permanent makeup, even with our master artists you should expect to do a 6 week touchup.  Students are supervised by our professional staff and they pre-draw the brows for your approval.  It is important to remember that students are learning.

It varies from student to student.  Some may just be getting started and some may have over 100 clients.

Yes.  Our students can usually do new client touchups, unless you need corrections or something more involved.  Our experienced master artists are available for more difficult procedures.

Prices are based on the experience level of our artists.

  • Master Artists -  Experienced artists that have professional skill levels, work independently, have seen a high number of scenarios, and mentor our student artists.  Master artists typically have hundreds or even thousands of clients.
  • Students Artists - Have beginner skill level and work under the supervision of our master artists..  Student artists typically have under 100 clients.

Our students are learning and less experienced than our masters so they are best for simpler cases, such as new clients and simple touchups.  If you have more complicated situation like corrections or medical conditions, we recommend you use our experienced master artists.

Come with a patient attitude.  Remember our students are learning and take longer than our master artists.  Also, you must we willing to let us use your experience, photos, and video, for possible marketing or online training,

Your brows will be representing our academy and our graduates to the public so we want you to have great results.  Although there are no guarantees in permanent makeup due to a wide variety of skin types, our students usually get high praise from our models.  To make sure you and our students have the best experience possible, we use a system with multiple checks to insure quality results:

  • Pre-practice - Our students must practice on paper and 3D mannequins before they are allowed to work on live models.
  • Progressive Mastery - We use a progressive training system that gradually builds up mastery in our students.  They start with easier skills, such as observations and client check-in.  As they progress, we introduce them to more advanced skills such as hair strokes and drawing.
  • Supervised - They are then supervised by our experienced instructors for the live model sessions.
  • Pre-drawn - The design will be pre drawn on your face so you will be able to approve the look before the procedure is actually performed.  We give you the final say.
  • 6-Week Touchup - Don't expect perfect brows after 1 session.  Permanent makeup is not a one and done process. Expect to get a 6-week touchup to do any fine tuning and to finalize your look.  Then expect to get a refresh touchup ever couple years. Touchups are not included in our pricing.
