Right expectations

Permanent makeup is a beautiful, low-maintenance enhancement, but it's a process that typically requires 2 or even 3 sessions to obtain the look you want.  Your brows will go through natural healing stages over 6 weeks, and the final look emerges gradually. Most clients achieve their ideal results after the initial session plus a touch-up, with adjustments based on how your unique skin retains pigment.

First Session

  • Results are temporary and unpredictable right after: Everyone's skin is different (oiliness, thickness, healing speed, etc.), so the initial outcome varies widely. Don't judge the final look based on the first few weeks!
  • Common (and totally normal) healing phases:
    • Days 1–3: Brows appear darker, bolder, and more defined than the end result (due to oxidation and surface pigment).
    • Days 4–10: Scabbing, flaking, and peeling occur—brows often look patchy, uneven, lighter, or "ghosted" (like the pigment has disappeared). This is the skin shedding and regenerating; pigment is settling deeper.
    • Weeks 2–6: Color continues to soften and settle. Many clients see brows heal lighter than expected, faded in spots, or needing shape/color tweaks.
  • Most common post-first-session observations:
    • Patchy or uneven areas during/after peeling.
    • Temporary "ghosting" or lightening (brows may look faded or like nothing was done).
    • Healed result appears very light, subtle, or uneven.
    • Shape or color needs refinement for symmetry and vibrancy.
  • Key takeaway: These changes are not a sign something went wrong—they're part of how skin naturally heals and integrates pigment. Patience is essential!

Second Session/Touch-Up:

Schedule your touch-up 6 weeks after the first session (no earlier—skin needs full time to heal and stabilize).

  • The healing process mirrors the first session (darkening, possible light flaking), but it's usually milder and shorter because:
    • We now know exactly how your skin responds (retention, color shift, etc.).
    • We can strategically adjust depth, color, and density to fill gaps, even out patchiness, and perfect shape/symmetry.
    • Your skin is more "accustomed" to the pigment, leading to better overall retention.
  • After the touch-up heals (another 6 weeks), you'll see the true final result—fuller, more even, and natural-looking brows.

Additional Notes:

  • If more refinement is needed after the touch-up, we offer a free follow-up session (within a reasonable timeframe) to ensure you're thrilled with the outcome.
  • In rare cases, certain skin types naturally reject or poorly retain pigment (e.g., very oily or highly regenerative skin). This can't be predicted until we try—permanent makeup simply may not hold as well for everyone, but most clients see excellent, lasting results with the full process.
  • Long-term: Annual or biennial color refreshes keep brows looking fresh as natural fading occurs over time.

Trust the process—follow aftercare diligently, attend your touch-up, and most clients are amazed at how beautifully their brows settle by the end. We're here every step of the way—if you have concerns during healing, reach out! Your perfect brows are worth the wait.

Brow visit Prep

1. Preparing For Your Brow Visit

To obtain your best results, make sure you understand the permanent  makeup process.  For many of our clients, it is their first time to get permanent makeup and many don't know much about how it works.

  1. Research - For many clients, it it their first time doing permanent makeup and they  often with wrong expectations of the process. Take some time to read our brows page to understand the process and if it is right for you.
  2. Book An Appointment - Most clients do the consult and procedure on the same day, but you can do them separately if you want.  We do free consultations.  Book online or call/text 727-213-8811 for an appointment.
  3. How Long - Expect 1 procedure to take about 2 hours and 2 procedures take about 2.5 hours.  Students artists may take longer so be more patient with them.
  4. What to Bring - If you have an idea of what you want, you can bring photos and and your favorite brow pencils so our artists can get an ideal of the style and color you are wanting.  We can also make recommendations.
  5. Wearing Makeup - If you have a style you want, you can wear your makeup with your favorite style to help the artist understand the look you are wanting; otherwise, it doesn't really matter to use if you wear your makeup or not.  We clean your face before the procedure.
  6. Arrival - Once you arrive, we will have you fill out paperwork.
  7. Numbing - The numbing cream takes 15-20 minutes to kick so we usually start the numbing right away. During the numbing, we will have you read over the aftercare.
  8. Consultation - We will do a consultation to figure out what you want.  If you aren't sure what you want, we can recommend a technique.  Once you decide on a design, then we will pencil draw the brows for your approval.  Be sure it is what you want.  If you don't like the drawing, let us know and we will change it until you approve. Once you approve the design, we will do the procedure.
  9. We will do the procedure and the tech will confirm you like the brows.  Make sure you like the brows because we cannot do additional work until the end of the 6 weeks of healing.
  10. When the procedure is finish, we will go over the aftercare process again and check you out. It is important to follow our aftercare directions carefully to prevent infection and to get the best results. (Read more about the aftercare below.)
  11. At first, your brows will look very dark.  They will peel within the first couple weeks and look very light.  The color will come back some over the 6 weeks of healing.
  12. At the end of the 6 weeks, you likely need to return for a 6 week touchup because you brows will likely heal light, patchy, slightly off symmetry, or like the pigment didn't take.  Don't worry.  That is what the touchup is for.
  13. At the 6 week touchup, the tech will take a look and see how your brows healed then make adjustments.  The touchup will have a similar 6 week healing process as the first procedure, but normally with improved results.
  14. If, at the end of the 6 weeks of healing, you need more work, we do a free follow up.
  15. Most clients will get a refresh touchup every 1-3 years because the pigment fades over time.
  16. Don't get discouraged if you don't like the results right away.  Most clients that stick with the process get good results.

Come with the right expectations.

We would love for all our clients to have perfect brows after the first procedure, but that is typically not how permanent makeup works.  Permanent makeup may take 2 or 3 procedures to get the results you want.

  • Permanent makeup is not permanent.  Expect it to fade over time.  It is designed to fade so that it is changeable over time as your likes change.  You might have a different style in a few years.
  • Expect results to vary widely from person to person due to factors like how well your skin accepts pigment, how well you care for you brows, your work environment, etc.  Permanent makeup results, especially the first procedure, can be perfect, light, very light, patchy, slightly unsymmetrical, or like the pigment didn't take.
  • Don't expect yours to heal the same as your friends. Results vary from person to person.
  • Don't expert yours to heal the same as the last time you did it.
  • Don't expect your permanent makeup to be like your body tattoos.  Permanent makeup uses different softer pigments and doesn't go as deep as body tattooing.
  • Expect to get at least one touchup.  There is a 75% chance that you will need the 6-week touch up and a 10% chance that you will need a third visit.
  • In rare cases, it doesn't work for some people because their skin pushes out there pigment too easily.
  • Expect to spend at least 2 hours for one services and 2.5 hours for two services.

Dos and Don'ts

  • Don't get a sunburn.  Minimize your sun exposer  for at least a week.
  • Don't do any waxing or facial treatments a week before you come.
  • Don't do any threading a couple days before you come.
  • Don't drink alcohol or coffee within 24 hours of your appointment.
  • Don't shave your brows.  We integrate the tattooing into the brows you already have.
  • Don't expect perfect brow immediately.  Permanent makeup is a process.  You should expect to do a 6 week touchup and possibly more.  Also expect to get refreshes ever 1-2 years.
  • Do wear your makeup if you think it will help us understand your style.
  • Do bring a photo(s) if you think it can help the artist understand the style that you are wanting.
  • Do read the FAQ and aftercare so that you will be prepared for the process.  Clients love permanent makeup, but it can be frustrating if you come with the wrong initial expectations.

Who should avoid permanent makeup?

  • Pregnant or nursing - Women who are pregnant or nursing should not get permanent makeup because of the possibility of infection and/or chemicals entering the bloodstream.
  • People with epilepsy, pacemakers, major heart problems, Lupus, organ transplants, Eczema, Dermatitis, Rosacea, Psoriasis, allergies to metal/color, Keloids, and Accutane.
  • You should get a doctors clearance for Chemotherapy, Diabetes, Thyroid, or Glaucoma.
  • You might want to reconsider doing permanent makeup if you are allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine, have very oily skin, are prone to cold sores, are prone to hyperpigmentation, or have sun damaged skin.
  • Blood thinners - We generally don't recommend doing permanent makeup if you are on blood thinners due to increased risks, such as excessive bleeding, increased bruising, and higher infection risks.  The pigment can also get pushed out more easily which lessens how long they last.
  • Shingles - If you have had Shingles, it is recommended to wait several months to make sure you are completely healed. Also, keep in mind that getting permanent makeup may reactivate the shingles.
  • Here is a good article on who should avoid permanent makeup with explanations.
